Douglas J. Hughes, EdD, CSFA, CST, CRCST
With over 20 years of experience as a surgical technologist and educator, I bring a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the field. As a seasoned expert witness, I have provided testimony in numerous cases involving surgical technology and allied health, and I have been recognized by both plaintiffs and defendants for my unbiased and comprehensive analysis.
In addition to my legal expertise, I am also deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. As a coach and trainer for Achieving the Dream's National Guided Pathways Collaborative, I have worked with community and technical colleges across the country to improve student success and equity. I have also attended numerous conferences and workshops focused on DEI, including the Leading with Racial Equity workshop by Becoming Justice.
My educational background includes a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Washington State University, a Master of Arts in Education with Emphasis in Curriculum and Instructional from California State University-Fresno, A Bachelor of Applied Science in Surgical Technology from Boise State University, as well as a Certificate in Surgical First Assistant Studies from Meridian Institute of Surgical Assisting. I am a Certified Surgical Technologist and a Certified Surgical First Assistant, and I hold numerous certifications in healthcare education. I received the Association of Surgical Technologists’ National Educator of the Year Award for 2012 and was named one of the nation’s “15 Top Surgical Technology Professors” in 2015.
As a consultant and trainer, I have worked with a wide range of educational institutions, including community and technical colleges, universities, and vocational schools. My areas of expertise include curriculum development, program assessment, faculty development, and student success initiatives.
